Angeles, CA, April 17, 2006 - Join us on Saturday, May 6, 2006 for our
selections from Theodor di Ricco’s 13th Congress for Performance
Art. We promise you some real live art here! From those of you who’ve
been to our live art events, you know you can expect intelligent edutainment
that extends the great art tradition of the Futurists, the Dadaists, and
the 70s performance artists. Theodor di Ricco (Germany) lives in Berlin. He has been organizing Congresses for Performance Art since 1987. He was educated at La Sorbonne in Paris, University of California at Davis, and California State University in Sacramento. In 1987 in Sacramento, he founded the artist group Gallery SoToDo, and in 1992 in Berlin, Gallery SoToDo e.V. He has performed in Sacramento, Montreal, Marseilles, Anyang (China), Kwangju and Seoul (South Korea), Zamosc (Poland), Helsinki, Minsk, Innsbruck, and throughout Germany. He is known for his intense physicality. See <http://www.sotodo.org>. Philip Fryer (USA) lives and works in Boston. He works to raise compassion levels of his audiences. He recently graduated from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where he studied with Mari Novotny-Jones. He also studied at The Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, and at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. He has exhibited in Muenster (Germany), in London, in Seattle, and in Boston at The Wang Center, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston University, and other top galleries. He collaborates with Sandra Schaefer under the name “The Present Tense.” Sandra Schaefer (USA) currently lives in Boston, MA. She graduated with a BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, in affiliation with Tufts University, where she worked with LA’s own Jamie McMurray, and Mari Novotny-Jones, among others. She also holds an Early College Program Certificate from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. With her concern for animals and people, she creates “live experiences” with actions and objects that accumulate meaning---often the polar opposite of that expected. Sandra is the cofounder of Performance Art Initiative. She has performed at The Museum of Contemporary Arts in Minsk (Belarus), in Muenster (Germany), and in the top performance spaces throughout the greater Boston area. Her performance videos have shown internationally. She collaborates with Philip Fryer under the name “The Present Tense.” Ernest Truely (USA) hails from New York and is a real crowd pleaser. His elaborately ritualized work pokes at Vienna Schoolers without really hurting. There is more than one way to burn Karma, let’s put it that way. Willem Wilhelmus (Finland/Holland) trusts his body. To prepare for his some 10 pieces a year, he strips away illusion to add something using simple materials. He has performed at Amos Andersson Art Museum and numerous other places in Helsinki, Kulturhuset in Stockholm, MCCB in Barcelona, the Museum of Central Finland, Jakarta Arts Center in Indonesia, Taidehalli in Vaasa and Helsinki, Art House Roda Sten in Gothenburg, and Rakvere in Estonia. He also organized and curated monthly live art events for Space for Art “Forum Box” in Helsinki. He has taught body awareness awareness and performance art throughout Europe and Scandanavia. He is the Cofounder of the body-oriented therapy Path Center in Berlin, and is the project leader of the Al Gardo live and work therapy project in St. Antonin, France. He is a trainer in ContactArt and Freemotion in Helsinki. It’s going to be rad, cool, dope, and sweet! Dangerous
